New Year - Just Me!

Another year around the sun. We often take this time to promise ourselves to become better than ever. We make lofty goals and lists of to-dos. While any reasonable goal is attainable, it takes us to a spirit of overdrive in pursuit of perfection. In as little as two weeks, we are ready to 'crash out' and burn. Some can't even get into gear initially from the mere thought of imminent burnout.

Goal setting is always a great idea, but think of it more as a planning period. Look at the entire calendar as months or seasons. What is something you can sprinkle in or work towards? Maybe it's beating the winter blues with a spa day or vacation. Think about literally smelling the roses and getting outside the office in the spring. Plan a friends' outing in the summer. Create an early vision board for home decorating before the holidays.

In this way, it's more about doing things that we love, not punishing ourselves. If there are habits to break, it may help to simply arrange affirmations in frequented spaces in your home or phone home screen. We don't need to change who we are overnight. Many of us forget to simply use the new year to celebrate all of the organic achievements that manifested the prior year. Keep doing more of that. Keep being the best version of you because you are, and will always be, Enough!
