Black Girl Magic: Girls Trip

The Girls Trip movie topped the box office this weekend with an estimated $30.4 million in ticket sales and beating out, “War for the Planet of the Apes” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Directed by Malcom D. Lee, who is also known for directing, “The Best Man Holiday, The Best Man, Barbershop: The Next Cut” and “Scary Movie 5” just to name a few.
This R-rated comedy, starring Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah followed a group of girlfriends, better known as the “flossy Posse” as they headed to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival.
Tiffany Haddish, steals the spotlight with her breakout performance, and definitely stands out amongst her well-known cast mates.
The racially diverse audience of 79 percent female and 21 percent male under the age of 30 gave the film an A+ rating on CinemaScore and an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which suggests that this just may be a classic that will be continuously played in the years to come. According to the movie tracking website Box Office Mojo, 59 percent of the movie goers were black, 19 percent were white, 17 percent were Hispanic and 3 percent were Asian.
