Taste of Prince George's-Food & Wine Festival

It’s Foodie Season in the DMV! Just days before Restaurant Week kicked off in the Greater Washington region, Taste Prince Georges hosted the annual Food and Wine Festival at Six Flags America, Saturday August 13th, 2016. It felt like the Hottest Day of the Year-no exaggeration. However, the water park of Six Flags was the perfect venue for this occasion. Patrons enjoyed great music & entertainment with some of the most popular and underground menus of the city. Did we mention, the Hurricane Wave Pool, Lazy River, or Water Play area was just a few feet away.

In case anyone was wondering, most vendors and trucks sold food for a small fee. In high demand were the participants selling beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). There were plenty of free samples including sushi from Wegmans, wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, and Donuts from Shoppers. For a full list of participating food and beverage vendors click here.

Celebrity judges including Housewives of Potomac Gizelle Bryant gave out several awards through out the day. Winners of the Taste Maker Award- Best Restaurant in PG went to Olde Towne Inn. Best Customer Service was awarded to Fish Market in Clinton. The Art Institute of Washington won the most anticipated College Culinary Competition. Runners to the culinary competition were the students of Prince George’s Community College.

The festival was hosted by Tara Gates-Anderson and broadcasted live by Michelle Wright of 102.3. Entertainment included: Yazarah, Wisdom Speeks, Tray Chaney, Ace Ono, Ab Abernathy, Ellis Lambert, Sound of the City, Konshens the MC, Subliminal Though, J Hill, Janaw, Reality TV, The Soul Messengerz. One of the fan favorite performances of the day was by Patrice Live who gave a full performance with 90’s hits with eye-catching choreography.

A few of the restaurant and chef participants attended the Press Conference days before the event. Darrin of Momma Boyz (catering) was looking forward to the event to show off his culinary skills. Darrin states, “Here are Momma Boyz, presentation is everything. Grandma made it and we perfected it.” When asked about his culinary secret, Chef Rome replied “There is no secret, we hust have love. Good Food comes with a good Heart.” Dell Jones of Chadale’s, eagerly awaited to out-match the other food vendors. Dell also announced the opening of his restaurant to come very soon.

Founder of Taste of Prince George’s, Quianne Perrine, “wanted to do something that was fun and different.” Well she accomplished what she set out to do because after being in the sun all day, attendees left happy and satisfied with suns tans to show.
